“Will my home feel normal again?” This is a question that every homeowner asks when looking at their home littered with debris following a storm. It can seem impossible to return to the life you had before a natural disaster. However, through the use of heavy equipment, organizations like Sirens Project can remove that anxious thought in just a few hours.
One of the biggest impacts we provide as a disaster relief organization is helping homeowners feel some semblance of normalcy during the recovery process. We do this through the removal of hazardous trees and debris. The ability for a storm victim to safely move around their property, and not worry about costly, time consuming debris removal allows them to focus on more pertinent things. More importantly, it gives that person a much needed push in order to get the rest of their lives back on track.
In order to maximize our impact in 2022, and many years to come, we are embarking on our biggest fundraising journey since the beginning of the organization! We are raising funds in order to purchase our own Compact Track Loader. Not only will owning our machine allow us to expand our capabilities in helping communities recover after disasters, but it will also expand the capabilities of the other non-profits we assist by providing special equipment in a moment’s notice.
What is a Compact Track Loader (CTL)?
A Compact Track Loader is a small earth moving machine equipped with high flotation rubber tracks designed to lift and move heavy loads across sensitive terrain. Compact Track Loaders utilize a diesel engine and hydraulic cylinders to grab and transport large amounts of debris around the work site. They resemble the design of a bulldozer, but are far better suited for maneuvering around tight spaces while reducing collateral damage to the properties in which they operate.
Machines Get More Stuff Done in Less Amount of Time
A CTL is a very important part of disaster response. The amount of debris that it takes dozens of volunteers several days to drag to the street can be moved in a matter of minutes by one machine. Time equals impact. The better Sirens Project is able to utilize its response time, the more people are able to get settled back into their daily lives during a deployment.
Because a Compact Track Loader will reduce the amount of time it takes to clear debris from a storm affected property, volunteers can continue to the next home and begin prepping the fallen trees for removal. Each property cleared is a homeowner with hope.
Our Mission Goes Beyond Us
Sirens Project is dedicated to assisting other nonprofits through the provision of special equipment. There are many other organizations that do incredible work who would also benefit from our ability to provide heavy machinery during clean up efforts. Remember time equals impact. Because we would be able to finish committed work orders in a timely manner, we can pivot to helping other organizations doing just as important work.
Availability and Repairs
In a large disaster area, such as the communities affected by hurricanes, heavy equipment is nearly impossible to acquire. The need is too great, and it becomes necessary to bring in equipment from outside the disaster zone.
We have recently relied heavily on volunteer machines in the past, but two major problems can arise in that situation: availability and repairs.
Most volunteers rely on their machines for daily income. Therefore, scheduling issues arise and we are unable to use the machines on deployment. Because volunteers rely on their machines daily, if a machine is damaged during a deployment the volunteer is subjected to time down and costly repairs.
Our goal is to eliminate those two major bottlenecks by providing our volunteer operators, and the communities we serve, with a machine that they can count on being available and without damaging their personal property.
As you could imagine, Compact Track Loaders are not inexpensive. Neither is the supporting equipment to transport them and keep them operational from one community to the next.
Sirens Project is striving to raise $80,000 in order to purchase a dependable Compact Track Loader, 14K transport trailer, and support equipment such as a spare track set and other common wear items.
Donating to this purchase allows us to say yes to bigger projects, and expand our capabilities as well as the capabilities of other organizations we partner with. It allows us to help victims of natural disasters feel normal again, and clear debris that no recovering homeowner deserves to struggle through on their own.
Sirens Project is incredibly grateful for the support that has been received so far since the formation of the organization in January of 2020. Thank you for considering donating to the Sirens Project, and supporting us as we continue to provide communities and other non profits with supplies, volunteers, and specialized equipment.
