PROJECT: MURRAY COUNTY

Easter Sunday 2020 was a very different day. Most churches across the country were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Virtually every community across the planet was affected to some degree by the coronavirus. Travel restrictions and shelter in place orders were implemented throughout the United States. However, severe weather was in the forecast, and natural disasters don’t wait for an opportune time to occur.

A little after 9:00pm on April 12, 2020 an EF-2 tornado began destroying lives and property along SR-225. 7 Fatalities occurred. This was one of nearly a dozen tornadoes that struck the state of Georgia that day. Many communities across the South were devastated. Sirens Project deployed to North Georgia to help the communities of Chatsworth and Eton. Extra precautions were taken in order to deliver a swift response, but also protect our volunteers and the community from the spread of COVID-19.

Sirens Project was able to deploy 10 volunteers over the course of 5 days, and bring relief to 4 different families. His Hands Church provided many of the volunteers for this deployment. Our primary mission was comprised of tree removal and debris clearing. We can not thank the community of Murray County enough for their hospitality, and helping keep our volunteers safe during the coronavirus pandemic.
