Sirens Project Takes a Huge Leap Forward: Our Grapple Saw Truck Crane Is Finally Home!
The Sirens Project just reached a massive milestone in our grapple saw truck build—and it’s one we’ve been working toward for a long time. Thanks to the incredible support of our donors and a generous deal from B&E Ironworks, we were able to purchase a garage kept knuckleboom crane much sooner than expected. This crucial piece of equipment brings us one step closer to completing the ultimate disaster response grapple saw truck.
A 42-Hour, 1,973-Mile Journey to Bring the Crane Home
To secure the Hiab 144-CL5 crane, our team traveled an exhausting 42 hours and 1,973 miles round trip all the way to New York. The long haul was worth every mile. This crane is the heart of the build—what will ultimately transform our 2003 Sterling SC8000 into a powerful, purpose-built grapple saw truck capable of tackling the most dangerous storm-damaged trees.
Why This Crane Matters for Disaster Response
When hurricanes and tornadoes strike, fallen trees often block roads, crush homes, and trap families. Removing them safely is one of the biggest challenges in disaster recovery.
This knuckleboom crane will allow us to:
- Remove hazardous trees faster
- Increase safety for our team and homeowners
- Improve efficiency during large-scale storm deployments
- Access hard-to-reach areas with precision and control
Combined with our planned grapple saw system, this truck—known as the PUG Truck—is being designed from the ground up to respond to some of the worst disaster scenarios across the Southeast.
Made Possible Because of YOU
This milestone wouldn’t have happened without the incredible community that supports our mission. Every donation, share, and prayer has helped propel this build forward.
Your support is making it possible for us to serve more families, respond more efficiently, and bring hope to communities devastated by severe weather.
What’s Next in the PUG Truck Build Series
This is just the beginning. In the upcoming episodes and blog posts, we’ll be covering:
- Prepping and restoring the crane
- Designing and fabricating the subframe
- Hydraulic system installation
- Grapple saw integration
- Lighting, electrical, and safety upgrades
- Full system testing and deployment-ready setup
This crane marks one of the biggest steps toward completing the PUG Truck—and we can’t wait to show you everything that comes next.
Follow along for updates as we continue building the most capable disaster response grapple saw truck in the country.
Your support is helping save homes, restore hope, and change lives.
